Hi there, I’ve got a JUKI LU-563 and have realised I’ve got some issues with my stitch length. I bought this machine from a shop. It looked good but was repainted and I am getting the feeling it may be worn out. I’ve got no experience with sewing machines.

    1. When I rotate the wheel on the right-hand side and sew slowly and when I sew quickly by using the foot pedal, there is a difference in stitch length. When I go fast the stitch length is longer. I don’t think it should do this? What do you think this is caused by? How could I fix this?
    2. At the back of the machine I have adjusted the work foot bar arm. I think that’s what it’s called; this changes the height of the pressure foot to allow thicker or less thick material to be sewn. However, I have noticed that this changes the stitch length. This in turn also causes the forward and reverse stitch to be out of sync. Is it normal for this adjustment to change the stitch length?

Any help with this will be greatly appreciated!

I'm no expert on machine repair, but I would look at the feed dogs ( toothed pieces under presser feet) or the presser feet not having the right pressure. The feed dogs may be worn out or not adjusted right. It sounds like the material isn't feeding at the same rate therefore different stitch length. I'm sure someone on here has the same machine and could give you better first hand info.

Thanks, Hal. I had already changed the feed dog for a new one, as the old one was worn. Unfortunately, this hasn't made a difference. Changing the pressure doesn't seem to make a difference either. Any further help much appreciated.

Also not an expert on machine repair - but I've been tinkering with my 562 for over 30 years now.
"Good Call Hal on the feed dogs" - and another area I have had trouble with is the Reverse-Stitch Lever.
A great Feature - But if I do not "Lift" the arm up each time after using - my stitch spacing is tighter.
I made sure to inspect/lubricate the internal mechanism and found nothing suspicious - so - I just remember to "Lift the Reverse Handle" - Another area which I play with is the; "Foot-Height-Lift-Adjustment" - When I find my stitches a bit closer than the wheel setting, I raise the foot height adjustment as it was creating drag on the top layer of material. And finally, check your Top Thread and Bobbin Tension Settings - Try going a little looser on the top - and tighten just enough to 'bury" the knot in the middle of your fabric - Good Luck !

Is this with all materials or just certain types/ thickness?

Nothing you can do as a newbie to this machine will replace a professional technician servicing and adjusting it. I have to drive about 3 hours to visit my guy, and it's worth every penny he charges, and the time required to drop it off and pick up. Ask around or ask your upholstery supplier who can help with this. Once your Juki is set up correctly, it will provide many hours of great stitching! Good Luck

Thanks everyone for their replies. I've had a little play around but have not been able to sort it. To make sure I don't mess it up any further I have now found a shop I can take it to. They will have a look at it and hopefully this will sort the issues.
