I was curious if most shops include shipping costs into their retail pricing or keep it as a separate amount altogether. I have done it both ways but seem to get more flack if I have a shipping amount added into the bill. Thanks in advance!

Shipping should be listed separately. The customer needs to know that shipping costs are going to be there and they are high right now. Just like sales tax, they need to pay it.

Just post a sign in the shop reception, $15.00 shipping charge added to all projects in addition to quoted price. If the job does not need to order materials,
Don’t add it. If it’s a bigger job that has $125.00 in freight, that should have been added to the quote.

If you don’t include shipping on your invoices it can be wrote off as a tax deduction. At least in Maryland any ways. So I personally just leave it off the invoice and write it off. One less thing being taxed. And one less thing for the customer to question

From a bit of a different perspective via our situation.... Shipping is our customers' #1 complaint right now. As mentioned, it's high.... from our experimentation figuring out how to include free shipping is our goal and would help the shopping experience.

We charge as a separate item, normally flat rate unless its over or it its a big job we just write "exact shipping charges charged at the end".
No need for you to eat anything. Every place is so different anymore. Trivantage/3rivers kill me on shipping, sailrite/albright/albany are very very cheap.. so it all depends.. try and lump sum alot of orders together to help customers though

Shipping is rarely free. The seller just factors the cost into the price of the product and acts like he did you a favor. It's all psychological.

I don't see any problems doing this, especially if customers gripe when they see shipping costs on the invoice.
