    Hi guys,

For those of you who haven't had the pleasure of removing old carpet that's been glued on
for 20 years you might find this helpful.

First you have to strip everything off the deck just to start the job.

Then with the help of a 36"long x 2"wide x 1/4"thick piece of aluminum flat stock and a dead blow hammer we made some good headway. The bar had a length of 1/2" foam around it for shock absorption and the end was sharpened only on one side so it tapered down then we could hammer it under the carpet, lift it up and release a bigger area then with a putty knife.

But it was 90 degrees out and that is way to much work for an old guy (70).

I knew there had to be an easier way so I hooked up my Come Along and a 2x4.

It couldn't have been any easier unless someone else was doing it.

Refer to the photo for the details and be sure to wind the chain around the carpet on both ends as shown in the pic to prevent the 2x4 from unwinding.

    Good luck,

    Peter

I run a knife front to back and pull strips off about 5” wide to 12”. The width depends on how tough it’s to pull off. If I have a tough sectional we got a blade scraper attachment for the sawzall.

I do it that same way cut strips front to back and pull them up the easier it is to pull up the wider strings I cut
