I have started a repair business for upholstery, but the business is taking a turn toward replacing. I do not know how to read Detroit books, so I was hoping to get advice on how to find oem fabric for older cars. Thank you for your time.
Hi I'm fairly new to this forum and have just been getting into automotive uohosltery. I have been doing boats for almost 5 years now. A place another shop pointed me towards for pre 2000 fabric is SMS fabric out of Portland. Anything newer than that my best luck has been with Albrights or Miami corp. I've found finding oem material is difficult.
I spend a lot of time for searching for distributors of OEM Cloth and Vinyl for classic cars in the last years. So I hope I can save your time a little bit:
Well I was going to recommend Original auto interiors..... BUT.... I just went to the website and they sold out to (unnamed). It's really unfortunate. Original auto interiors had great customer service. On the other hand I cant say the same about the company that bought their business. I have as of yet, not found anyone that has had a good experience dealing with that other company. I hate to be this way, but when I have heard multiple stories of not just bad but horrible service from the other company I will not bother to call them myself. I'd rather call every small shop in the US searching for materials than give that place any of my hard earned $. I could go on about how they messed up several orders for my customers but I'll just leave it at this.
Original Auto interiors was a wonderful company to deal with. I thank them for their service to the industry and wish them well in retirement. I'm sad to see them go!
Know exactly what you mean about 'that' company.
I've been looking for some factory seat fabric for a '91 454 SS. There's 2 types involved. Inserts then the rest.
Not down to the last resort of calling 'them', (yet) until I've exhausted all other possibilities.
With that said, anyone have a line on this or any connections that may be able to help?
Seems to me that it's not specific to the 454 SS, but a generic GM fabric across the line.
In red, of course.
The customer wants a complete recover of both so I'll be needing the appropriate amounts of yardage.
Hey jens that’s an awesome list I use all the European ones on your list and highly recommended them, hears anothe I use there based in Poland http://dik.info.pl/skory-naturalne-samochodowe/
Hopefully it can be of use
I have has some good experiences with SMS. Almost as many good as bad ones. I learned to ask at the time of ordering if the fabric was actually in stock or if they had to get it from somewhere or make it. If it isn't in stock, I don't order because chances are you will never see it.
