43Hey guys n gals. I'm recovering a motorcycle seat for a returning customer. He wants leather lacing around the outer seams of his seat.
My question: What type of leather lacing and where to buy? There is all kinds of lacing to be found on the web, but I have no idea of the quality. I want to be sure that it wont fade in a few weeks, or dry out and break apart. As far as where to buy I don't believe my regular suppliers have any, and if they do they may not really be sure of the quality. What do you guys/gals use? -

You'll want to use kangaroo lacing, this is the strongest most durable option.

43Thanks for the info. I just got my lacing in and I'm starting to experiment. What do you guys n gals use to thread the lacing?
I got a lacing chisel set, it's pretty self explanatory. To thread the lace through the punched holes I soaked about 2" of the end in super glue then cut the tip to a point. The hardened end seems to work pretty good for threading the lace through the holes. How do you go about threading the lace? ..stitching awl? -

Permalok needle. they have a threaded tube that the lace is spun into to lock it to the needle.
I usually use a small diameter hole punch rather than the chisel, it just comes down to what you prefer and the look you want.
