Aviation adhesives

    I am interested in knowing what adhesives shops are using in their aircraft projects. 3m 1357 seems to be the adhesive put forward as the standard. When I went to the 3M website, it indicated that 1357 was for gluing veneer. It didn’t mention Upholstery. Also, I noticed one distributor’s web site noted it was not available in a number of states, including mine. I have done a just a few aviation jobs and used 3M-38808. The FAA(FAR 23.853), from what I found, doesn’t say anything about glues. So, share what you use and your impression.

    when I worked in aviation we used 3m PB912 (i think), Keyston bros landau adhesive, and the dap weldwood landau. From what I remember there are no regs. on what glue is used for interior soft parts.

    The actual adhesive used is not a concern once the adhesive has cured. Glue is most volatile in a liquid state. The solvents that are in the uncured glue are very toxic and flammable, but after they have had a chance to off-gas the flammability factor falls to almost zero.

    As with most aircraft materials, the smoke produced from burning is what will need to be evaluated.
