An aluminum ruler can easily be narrowed with a fine toothed carbide saw blade on a tablesaw. Just be careful and go slow with the ruler held down with feather board clamped to the fence. A few strokes with a file and it's whatever width you want. I've split several aluminum strips the way. Just be careful and have the ruler under control all the time.

Typically for cutting welt cord strips depending on what size cord you run and seam allowances..

I had a signmaker friend cut me strips of plastic in various sizes, mine are all 1mtr long but they could be cut any length.I've got one inch up to three inch in 1/4 inch increments.

Thanks everyone now I have multiple ideas. And yes I cet my welt cord at 1 1/4.

I also cut mine at 1 and 1/4, works out just right for 10mm (3/8) seam allowance.
