I have a customer wanting seat ventilation and heat on a bench seat (57 Nomad). I have never installed ventilation and was wanting to get some information. I have googled the subject and have found some information, but that is from companies selling the kits. I am strongly thinking of passing on this, as I feel it could be a problem child. Any thoughts, ideas, or information would be appreciated.

A customer asked me the other day the same thing I wasn’t willing to pursue it but if you went to a wrecker would be your best bet and install all the product from it

You can buy seat ventilation & heater kits complete with nice switches & are easily installed. Most importantly, if your seats do not have perforated inserts then forget the ventilation part as it wont work but the heater will. To get the best out of ventilation is to use good quality foam for the cover & punch 1/8"(3MM) holes in the foam before sewing the perforated leather on. These holes should be punched above where the fans have been set in the seats. Note, dont punch too many holes & too close together as it may distort the leather when you are finished. This process can only be done if you are making new covers so if your using original covers then the ventilation will still work but not as much air gets through the foam. It is a relatively easy job & you can make good money from it.

Thanks for all the info...what company has the better kits? I saw someplace about a special sew foam that is ventilated for this purpose, have you used it or just stay with punching holes?

I, too, am wondering about the special sew foam. I'll be doing heated/ventilate seats pretty soon!
