So I’m doing one of these seats and I’ve never tore into one before. I believe these seat covers are glued on. So two questions, first, how do I reproduce the pleats are they just sewed in foam like normal? Somebody told me that they were in the actual seat foam. Second, if these are glued on, which I’m pressure they are, what’s the best way to release the glue without damaging the foam. Thanks so much guys and gals!
I just peel the old cover off, carefully... Not an easy task... The foam will get torn up a bit, so we typically sand it smooth and then apply a thin layer of foam to compensate for what was torn off during the removal of the cover.
Sand them level.... I got tired off using sanding discs... I’ve been using a wire wheel that is usually used for cleaning up metal... be careful it’s pretty aggressive..... I use the side of the wire wheel.... it doesn’t wear out like sanding discs do
The pleats are made from the foam itself. I would suggest steam and/or adhesive remover. 3m comes to mind as a good one to use. Have done plenty of the old blazers that way. Dont tear it out or you will lose the design.
