currently doing a steering wheel for a sl56 Mercedes that the customer wants the top and bottom flat so I have stripped it down thinking it would be steel which I have no problem welding but it was what I thought to be aluminum so still not a problem as a mate round the corner can do that for me . problem is we started to do it and it isn't aluminum either as it just wont take to it , all it does is spit and dribble so all I can think it is what I would call monkey metal !!!!!!!!!! has anyone been here before ??? ive looked on internet and found this https://www.muggyweld.com/video/pot-metal-zinc-die-cast-repairs-made-easy/
so just wondered if anyone has done this

The new company name is SolderWeld and the product that you are looking for is called Multi Sol.
This amazing product is designed to work on pot metal and dis-similar metals to create a secure bond. The low melting temp of the product allows you to repair delicate metal without melting it away.

The company owner Is Lance,he changed the name of the company to take it international.
I met Lance in person at SEMA last year and he was very helpful. I bought the product along with the flux and a jar of the Hot Block, which is also amazing.

I saw on a metal forum once that if you take any metal you cut off and remove and melt it down to a welding rod shape, you can use that along with a torch to “weld” the pot metal back together. They say it’s best to use original scraps or pot metal from extra parts for the same era and car it’s works best. Thinking that as they’re built the pot metal contents will change and not weld as good.

Id like to see what foam or product you use to put back on the wheel and sculpt it.

as it is ive used this in the end veck very very strong and cures in 10 minutes !!!!!!! amazing stiff and will be ideal for modern plastic door panels .
the flat sections are going to be carbon fibre dipped so wont have padding and the rest will be alcantara
