Hi everyone....I'm a new member and am just getting into the business after years of doing boat work. Just finished the bench seats for a "62 Bonneville and the customer was so impressed he wants me to do the door and trim panels now. I've started to tear them down and have come across tacking trim that according to my research is no longer available. Here are some pics and my question is..."what do I use to replace it??
They do sell a repair strip, bit it's only about 2" long with one nail. I have just made new panels and drilled the doors, punched the panels and used frog leg clips. Not OEM but it works.
You will have to replace the tracking strip to hold the windlace but usually you can use the normal metal door panel clips on the sheet metal behind the upholstered panel. Just try to get as close to the tackstrip as possible and use a stiff product like 1/8 mahogany so the panel won't bend from the clips being a little far from the edge.
