I am patterning out a boat cover right now and I'm curious what others use for padding on the underside where the cover rests on windshield/tie downs/etc. Before, I have used scrap pieces of vinyl top material left over from cars I recovered the roof on and just sewed them on the underside wherever the cover contacted objects that would wear on it. Is there something out there specifically for this purpose? If not or even if so, what do you use?

fuzzy vinyl top material, auto leather that won't bleed through, or this https://www.sailrite.com/Softouch-Birch-60-Fabric I have used this on hardware, windscreens and where fabrics can rub on gel-coat.

You can buy “roll ends” of the vinyl top material. It’s usually discounted as it’s flawed and not normal sized.

I am sure there is a specific use material. I do a lot of marine upholstery and have a lot of odd sized vinyl remnants. I do 25-30 boat covers a year and use the scraps mentioned, they work great. They don't bleed and so far seem to wear well.
