curious if any one has this style tension assembly on their machine head. The thread has basically cut a grove through that top tensioner where it has the tiny bar infront to hook the thread around.
i usually don’t try to work on these machines as we have a awesome repair company here in denver, but it’s a hr drive to get to it.
just curious if it’s the end of the world to remove that tiny bar on the top tensioner. thanks!

The off brands work ok, but I like the name brand tension disks as they are made of a higher quality steel. The off brand seem to get grooves cut into them from the thread faster.
I don't think the thread hooks around the tiny bar. I have a Pfaff 145, 545, and 1245. The manual says it does not go around the tiny bar. Mine don't and work perfectly. Replace the tension plates, and don't hook the thread around the tiny bar.
As stated earlier, Ebay a new assembly. If you remove the “tiny bar” it would allow the disk to rotate and wrap the thread around it. Just what I think would happen without a test. They put it there for a reason. If you are so inclined pull the tiny bar out and give it a try. I would really like to see if my theory is correct. That assembly is really easy to just swap out. That bar is an anti rotation pin for the tension plates. The thread doesn't go around it either, I see people do it all the time but it is incorrect. As William said , the plates will spin and Jim is right too lol.
You learn something everyday. I always put the tension around the pole. Come to think of it I don't think I used to but an engineer told me to. I've just looked in the manual (Juki LU563) and right enough it doesn't picture it going round at all ...I'll have play with it tomorrow :-)
lol i’m with you Darren, it just seemed logical so i did it. But, thanks everyone for their input. Luckily, here in denver we have a shop called Ralph’s Power sewing. They are a full blown sewing machine shop, they stock any parts you could ever need and even have a in house machine shop.
