I just got done listening to the latest episode of NC Shop Talk. In it, Cindy Barlow, director of industry relations at WyoTech, says the school keeps a database of graduates of their auto trim program.

@Mal Maher smartly suggests trimmers could reach out to WyoTech for a line on trimmers to hire (or even sell their shops to when they're ready to retire).

I know a lot of trim shops are hesitant to hire new grads as they need a lot of hand holding, but a lot of folks in their database have been in the industry for some time. WyoTech apparently keeps tabs on all their alumni, even ones from years ago.

Give the episode a listen and consider reaching out for hires. It sounds like WyoTech is keen on maintaining a strong post-grad network: Listen here!

School is just a beginning. The real learning is hands on working in a real environment. Mistakes will be made. This shouldn't be a determent for hiring a graduate. If you treat your people well, they will take care of you. Getting the experience to be a great trimmer takes time. Just remember no one starts at the top.

Hello Fred! How have you been? All great points. As a shop owner, I'd be more apt to train someone with a little bit of knowledge and help mold them into professionals/how your shop does things. That's a homerun for the shop owner who can't afford a 10 year industry pro who will cost more and/or set in their ways. Wyotech's database surely provides some good options for shop's nationwide. I hope the podcast helps place a few jobs and creates some new opportunities.
