Has anyone else had a problem with installing an EZ on headliner with a Robbins top on a 2010 VW Beetle? Everything fits perfect but while doing the last function, installing the rear window plastic flange into the channel I'm ending up with extra flange as if the flange opening size is too large for the window channel size. By too large I mean I end up with extra flange even though I have the flange installed as deep into the channel as it will go. Thank you for any input. Al

I haven't had any issues in the past when installing but TBH the quality of EZ on, Robbins, and Gahh has gone down quite a bit after joining all together and for 35 years, my ownership being new, we've had no issues then all of a sudden this year alone I've had 3 issues with their products- items not fitting correctly and plastic retainers being sewn on wrong or too high or low. When I talked to the rep they said to me that they will re-box products from each other so I don't even know who actually made that darn thing (imported cars are almost all made by Gahh and repackaged by Robbins). He did state though that they will use EZ on as a last resort if Robbins or Gahh didn't have the product so I'm guessing they DO have their own patterns for products but for a company that made oem factory tops in the past they have sure hit the can with quality! At this point unless I can made it I'm always installing oem parts to not deal with the hassle.

Spencer, you make a good point of using OEM. We all get used to calling up Robbins or GAHH when ordering a convertible top or convertible headliner, but sometimes on newer cars the dealership has the part and at a reasonable price. Dealerships aren't always the best option, but it is good to check.

Dealership parts are having problems too.

We had a terrible hailstorm in Central Florida in April '22. Some body shops installed their own convertible tops on hail damaged cars. I was contacted in September 2022 by a Mustang owner who had an OEM Ford top installed in June 2022. It had already delaminated at the back window.

That OEM top only lasted for 3 months! On the rare occasion that I see a warranty issue, it is usually at least 24 months old.

How did you resolve this? Did you give EZ On a call?

Most aftermarket convertible top manufacturers have technical folks on staff who could walk us through difficult installs, but I hear not a lot of trim shops take them up on the offer.
