    Hello All,

I'll be direct: I am beginning the process of looking for an upholstery position outside the US. Any guidance and help would be greatly appreciated, especially from ex-pats. While I don't feel it's relevant to discuss my reasons in this forum, I'll tell you it is not for nefarious reasons. My reasons are personal and legal.

Now, a bit about myself and experience:

I began in the auto trimmer trade in 1985 at age 21, so yeah, for those doing the math, I am that old. I have worked in the trade fairly consistently, either as an employee in shops, in my own shop, or out of my home. I have done restoration, repair, and custom work.

I'm experienced in all phases of auto, marine, and aviation upholstery, as well as some experience in aviation cabinetry. I also have several years experience in canvas and awning fabrication, as well as large tent construction.

I have a strong mechanical background, and not afraid to get dirty. I'm very detail oriented but not to the exclusion of the total work scope of any project. I can work well independently or as part of a team effort. I show up on time, everyday, ready to work. I have all my own tools but if I encounter a tool I need more than three time, I'll buy it.

Some examples of my work can be seen here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.4555114600777&type=3

I appreciate you reading this far and if you believe I am a possible candidate, or you can help, I'd appreciate your consideration.

CV / Resume, References, and portfolio available upon request.

    Hello Michael,
thank you very much for your post and for sharing your upholstery experience with the forum.
Starting a new job outside of the USA is one thing. Starting a new life outside of your known environment is quite another.
Maybe you should give a few more information about where you'd like to go: we're at the other end of the world - Australia. Would that be a consideration? Or would closer to 'home' be your goal?
Although you don't want to disclose your reasons for moving outside the US (which is absolutely fine), you need to be frank about those reasons (politics? money? more quality time with your family? ...)
We've been through this process and the grass is not always greener on the other side, but other things might improve.
Happy to help if you have any further questions.
    Regards,
    Carmen from M&C Vehicle Trimming
