you mean these pens? These pens work well and wipe off easy. A wet Mr. Clean Magic eraser wipes it off really well.

I've used a sliver leather pen (just the metal tube refill) that is less "inky" than the above refills and the silver leather metal refill didn't wipe off as well. Some people use the Fisher silver Space Pen and say they wipe off well.

I've had good luck with the Fisher silver space pens. I tried out some of the cheep refills off of ebay and had a hard time getting the ink off of some materials. Also had issues with the ink leaking out of the refills when they were just sitting around. The Fisher pens cost more money, but they last a long time and I haven't had any issues getting the marks off.

I try not to mark any area that will be visible, if I do need to mark a stitch line or something that could be seen I use a white water erasable fabric pen.It can leave a residue but one that is far less obvious than what a silver pen does, also I have less fear of it soaking into and staining the thread.

Silver space pens is the only one we use.. we just dont let it sit on the face of the material for a long time, some vinyls/leathers its hard to get off..

If a silver pen marking has been sitting too long, I use a small amount of WD40 on a sponge.
WIpes off easily.

I don't like them at all. I like using washable crayola markers. The fine tip.

Believe it not I do my patterns on the back side of the fabric or vinyl that I am using, gotta be careful sometimes you have to remember to reverse the pattern depending on the job and never use ink pin or marker, ok on foams somtimes

I use the the silver pen most of the time, but careful about using it on some leathers. Cleans off fairly easy with a damp cloth with water and a little Dawn dish soap.

The longer the pen is left on the material the harder it is to remove all of it.

I use wax pencil for everything. I found it hard to get the silver pen out of the grain sometimes.
I have seen pens that disappear with heat - anyone used them?

We use the heat pens with vinyl and leather. They work well for us but when you go over them with the heat gun the colour disappears but you can see where the pen mark was in the right light. We use industrial hand cleaning wipes from B&Q, go over them once and the marks are completely gone. I find they’re easier to remove in some applications than the wax pencils

I try to always test the silver ink pens on the vinyl before using it. I also use chalk with the marking wheel that I stole from my wife. It works fine but have to be careful not to wipe it off while sewing.

@Lee Thiel you also have to beware which type of dawn dish soap you use as I found this out recently with a fancy Sunbrella Vinyl.
I use Dawn all the time but forgot I had the extra strength degreaser Dawn… After cleaning the vinyl I steamed it with my Jiffy… and I think the heat made the chemicals in the dawn react to the vinyl taking the protective layer off. It made the Sunbrella Vinyl lighter in color wherever the heaviest residue was left. Looked like I sprayed it and left it to dry. Let’s just say I was pissed.

Thanks for the warning, Justin. I did have some of the lesser quality vinyl shed what I would call a clear type coating. Since then I do a test on matching scrap .
