The only part of upholstery I struggle with is pricing I either aim too high or shoot myself in the foot and it seems to favour the latter the most of the time.I added a few pictures of the job I most do, I am able to do the job no problem and fast as Ive done numerous jobs like it before I decided to go out on my own but its getting the price right, I've done this job before and was told I'd have more work like this but the price I gave them most have scared them away as I never got work of them again. I'm looking for an exact price but some guidance in pricing
Pricing has been difficult for many trimmers as there is no real guide to follow. I can say that some of our work is priced by the hour, based on the local market. Some of our work is priced by our expertise as in no one else can do the job. I would suggest for some of the simpler jobs, such as the cushion in the photo, base it on the time it would take a journeyman to do and base the hourly rate on what Auto dealers in your area charge in their service department. Mark up the material 100% and see if it is worth doing. I would charge about $250 for this here in Wyoming.
Jobs like that we do often and have templates to fab from. Can knock the cover out in about 30 minutes. Many we have prefabbed or molded foams on hand. $125.00 for cover, $125.00 foam, so your $250 is on target.
