I started trimming in 1945 my dad taught me.
The business has competition that are doing work that’s a disgrace to the trade.
Prices cheaper than years ago Quality bad.
The mechanics there shop rates here $160 per hour plus.
The trim shops 25-50 hour the work they do gives a bad name to the business.
I communicate with some the shops and trying to get them to change.
We’re getting more for our work, however, customers are concerned why they are paying more.
I’m still trimming still do a lot of custom work.
Years ago we tried to put together an association there were too many arguing and it fell apart.
The shops that do quality work and get better prices are to be applauded.
    I still enjoy doing it.

    PS
There are a lot of manufactures doing good work. JD

Geez! Jack, if you started trimming in 1945, that makes you at least 85 years old! Assuming you picked up tools at your dad's shop when you were 10 years old. I have seen guys work into their 80s, but this trade can take a toll on your hands, eyes, back, etc. Do you think you're just lucky, or can you offer some tips for trimmers to keep going as long as you have?

My hat's off to you, sir, for all those years in the trade. You've seen a lot of changes.
