It’s a misleading title, but it has a back story. I do metal work along with upholstery. With this you and with upholstery, you make friends and meet people. One thing I’ve noticed is that a lot of the more advanced metal fan shops often offer 3 day- a week class. Or my favorite, metal meets. Metal meets are all over the country and it’s just a long weekend, where people gather. Advanced, beginner, and in between. They are donation based. People come and help each other with personal projects. They are usually in someone’s shop. Some people are just there to help, some to learn.

Granted now is a terrible time to get together, but we as upholsterers should do things like this. There are some great shops and people, that I’d like to learn tips and tricks from, that I’d never know or figure out on my own to enhance my work.

    Just and idea

It's a great idea! It just takes one person in a region to organize and send invites...

Anyone that wants to plan one, know that you'll get the full support of The Hog Ring. We'll help you promote the event on our website and all our social media channels. This way, everyone knows when and where it's happening, plus other details.

These workshops are a great way to introduce yourself and the services you provide to car clubs too. I have done many of them over the years and they are quite rewarding.

That's a great idea too, Fred!

Instead of just inviting other trim shops, you could invite local car clubs and enthusiasts. This way they can learn more about what you do and gain a sense of appreciation for the craft. And when they're in the market for actual trim work, they already know you.

I’ve thought about a cars and coffee thi NV a once all this blows over. Just cause that’s what I’m into. May work there but would have to haul my machine and everything. Which could be a pain.

Here are some thoughts on this idea that maybe people could have insight on.

Unless you’re close to a shop that sells equipment, and could get the allow them to be “tested” so there are enough machines for everyone. I’m a one man shop with enough room and machines for just that lol.

At the metal meets there is usually a few days before, and a few days after. Shops that come and do seminars for money. More hands on, more detailed than just everyone helping everyone. Usually focuses on one thing. For this you could have someone who does restoration work only before, then after someone who does more custom work. A shop that really excels in something.

Most food is by donation, meaning people who come donate money and the hosts grill, have pop and chips, etc. (this is by the meets I have been too) lodging on the individual.

I don’t think this idea is out of question, and @Fred Mattson May have more input in this as he’s done similar before. Maybe I’m over thinking it.

Thank you @Cody Lunning and @Nadeem Muaddi for the mention.

Yes, I have done many work shops that were a pay to learn experience as well as the free meet and greet demos for car clubs. If there is an interest in this, I can be help answer questions on how to set up and arrange them.
