So i have lots of customers with Jag's with sagging headliner material most of the headliners i've done in the past have come out and gone back in without creasing but the boards on the jags are big and the headliners are creasing when i put them back in.
Any tips on getting them back in without creasing them also, is there anything i can do to get the creases out once the board is back in the car?
We have the rear window pulled on the jaguars, VW Jetta, and the new Ford fusion or focus. It adds to the cost but we don't have any issues with bending the headliner getting it in and out.
Thanks Jesse i was thinking about taking the rear window because it did nt look like it was glued in.... I'm guessing if i take the centre bead out of the rubber seal i can then push the glass out?
I've steamed the boards to remove and reinstall them. You can steam the crease after the headliner install ,it usually allows the board to conform to its original shape. Or partially glue headliner to the board out of car reinstall board and complete the headliner to the board in the car.
I have only done 1 Jag headliner, couldn't figure it out how to get it out. Every headliner I have ever done has come out the passenger front door. Researched it online and it said to fold it in half and go out the back driver door, freaked me out folding it, but it worked and no creases.
I've taken them out of the driver rear door too on Jags. i also remove the rear seats to do it. I try my best to bow the headliner as opposed to folding it to prevent the creases but sometimes they end up happening anyway. I warn the customers ahead of time about the potential for creases so as not to surprise them in the end.
Thanks for all the in put guys I've got another 3 to do over the coming months will let you know how it goes and what my results are and what technique i used to get them.
Has anyone done a 2005 Volvo v70 station wagon? The rear hatch is a foot smaller than the width of the headliner board. It seems to me I'll either have to pull the windshield or severely fold the board to get it out of the vehicle.
I done two jag headliner. The first one we have taken out of the passenger front door. The other one was removed by my customer. He cut the board in the middle of the sunroof :-O to get it out. It doesnt look that bad when it was installed.
At my last headliner job I have to remove the complete center console to get it out. (VW jetta) (N):s
Dam guys your giving me nightmare lol to date i haven't taken on any real tricky one's yet.
But alot of the euro stuff isn't as prevalent yet downunder.
Yes we have boards but the little stuff isn't as common in the country areas here yet.
The younger gen are taking thst way but its mainly medium to large vehicles out here.
That and the throw away attitude of young people.
They run them till they're not roadworthy the send them to the wreckers.
Plus the attitude that our trade is just glorified seamstress dosent help.
We are the trade that nobody thinks about till the budget is spent and they want it cheap as.
Sorry for going off topic
05 and up VW Jettas I charge extra 100 for center console removal and reinstall and t cover the cost of the new clips for grab handles visors and overhead console. Can't remember if I ever had to do a newer jag headliner but have done my last sunroof panel without charging for the board removal. Only ones I found that needs to come out the rear of the box.
Today I had a 2007 Chrysler Sebring in the shop for a headliner. After dropping the board I couldn't get it out of the front door. I was bending it so much that I was afraid I'd do permanent damage to it. I think I'm going to have to pull the windshield on this car to get it out.
Last week a Volvo V70 station wagon came to the shop for a liner. You'd think a wagon with a rear hatch door would be easy to remove the board but the liner was significantly wider than the opening of the hatch.
So after doing 4 Jag headliners one with a sunroof and 2 Daimler headliners i can honestly say that the only way to guarantee no creases is to have the windscreen taken out.
I tried taking them out the rear drivers door after removing the door card which gave more room but they still creased going back in, on long door models it was easier but still creased going back in. I tried removing the front passenger door completely and the passenger seat but still creased.
In my opinion if the customer is warned that there might be a slight crease in the headliner and there ok with it then that's the best option to save the customer money because if they don't want any creases then they will have to pay to have the windscreen taken out
