Hi Guys, Im currently working on a vintage car that has lots of lead filled brass pin beading which needs to be shaped which i thought would be difficult but not to hard but it's proving very difficult to get a nice smooth curve and i want to get it as close to perfect as possible.
Do you guys have any tips for bending and shaping it??
Thank for the reply Eric, what do you do about the lead getting to hot and dripping out? also there's over 6 meters that i need to shape and one section in nearly 2 meters long it goes round the entire door edge, is there any otherway?
Hi Joseph, Is this beading to be covered in leather , painted or chromed when complete. On tough curves, we've taken the lead out and shaped just the brass.
That'll be perfect. Try making the bend in the middle of the bead length. You can then join together on the straight by placing a solid piece embedded into the lead. If there is a ripple or wave in the bead It can always be sanded then covered.
