    Hello,

My name is Eddie, I am looking at buying a long arm double needle machine for French seams. I do auto and marine upholstery. What is the ideal needle spacing? 1/4” or 3/8” and why?

I’m getting conflicting opinions and I am torn not wanting to make a mistake.

I prefer 3/8 but its up to you. Go and measure a bunch of car seats, see what you like best and what you think looks better. The gauge on the machine can be changed if you buy one and decide you don't like the width.

Thank you for the response, I did buy the machine and will change it if need be.

Hi Eddie; I too had the same issue first got a double needles with 1/4" but after noticing that most of the seats I have been working on came with 3/8" so I convert my maching to 3/8"...but if you cna afford to nice to have both sizes.
