I went to buy some supplies today from my local auto parts store and my business debit/credit card wouldn't work. After logging on to my account, I discovered there were several fraudulent charges on my account. This seems to happen to me at least once a year, after it happened last year and my then bank wouldn't do anything about it - I switched banks. I am just wondering if anyone else has had this issue. This card is only used for upholstery purchases from one of the online suppliers or my local small town auto parts and lumber yard. I am just trying to figure out if this happens to anyone else and if perhaps my cards are being compromised through one of the online suppliers. It's getting old...
This happened to me before when purchasing items -- not upholstery related -- online.
Not sure which online suppliers you buy from, but my advice would be to stick with big, well-known online suppliers and retailers. Buying items from small, unknown websites (like I did) is a recipe for disaster. Once they have your credit card information, you're at their mercy.
Hope you cancelled your card and cleared up the issue right away. Best of luck!
I only buy from the big, well known suppliers. So I just must have bad luck. Yep, they cancelled my card and cleared it up and I caught it soon enough the merchants were even able to stop the deliveries of the items.
I’m in the same boat. It seems like every year someone gets my info. I haven’t had luck finding which site it is. The card is my personal not business and gets used more often and at a lot of places. I tend to feel it’s amazon to be honest. I can’t verify this. My wife uses amazon all the time and never had an issue. So idk. I’ve learned to keep a good eye on my account anymore to stop it right away. Best of luck
Thanks guys. I never use WiFi in public places. You may be right about a Trojan horse or something. I too have learned to just stay on top of it. Dang people - at least the deliveries were stopped so they didn’t get their merchandise this time
I had this happen to me a few weeks back. 30 charges of 5$ a peice Through a square app.
Only purchases I made were from 2 upholstery supply sites. Card info might of gotten snagged through them.
Happens to me - two or three times per year.... One thing I do know is don't use your debt card online.. learn this the hard way about 10 years ago-- since its your "debt" visa/mc the bank does not have to give you your money back? - so I changed banks and now never use the checking account debt card to pay for anything. I stick to my American Express card - and one Master card.... And I check my account often...
One thing I recommend to help prevent fraudulent charges is to set notifications on your cards, credit and debit, at each institution so you will be notified of EACH charge. With the use of the smart phone, we can now stay on top of each and every charge to our cards. Also, I use PayPal whenever possible. I do NOT use debit for online purchases, ever!
