Is there an easy/quick way of measuring a cow hide? I understand the square foot price but with the uneven sides/edges how do we now we are getting what were paying for? I recently was at a suppler who I have purchased from in the past . I picked a hide and saw a hand written 49.6 on the outside edge but upon farther inspection found a stencil type stamp that read 39.6. more to the inside of the hide. I have seen hand written sizes before but they usually are a smaller denomination than the stamped number meaning a portion of the hide has been cut off. So now I'm wondering if this guy is screwin people or am I jumping to unjust conclusions, either way I need more info before I decide if I'm going to deal with this guy again, On a more selfish note the guy is local and it would be a shame to loose this contact out of pure convenience, but damn we can't have people misrepresenting. Any info would be helpful

Do not always assume that the supplier is dishonest.

If the supplier is reputable, you can measure the hide back at your shop. If you find that the goods are not what you paid for, then return them and tell the supplier why.

The supplier may not know that the marking was incorrect or they did know - either way you know and should stand up for what is right.
