Hi guys,
With the rumours of the end of production of the Bosch foam saw circulating i went looking for a replacement and have found something that you might be interested in!!
I had a scare yesterday as my bosch cutter was cutting out. I thought it was the brushes so sorted that, still nothing ...rang bosch and they charge a standard £150 fee to fix it. I did a quick check with my multimeter to see where I wasn't getting power and discovered that the cable was damaged. God know how that happened! Replaced it and it's fine.
So i was thought I ought to start thinking about a back up or replacement. That seems like a good price too. Anyone tried them?
My second hand foam saw made some unusaul noises and sparks were coming out the back last year. The internal capacitor had blown, easy and cheap to repair myself.Heres where I got the spares from for those of you in the uk.You need to search by tool model number. http://www.powertoolspares.com/
Check out Maimin cutters. I bought a factory rebuilt model Sabre 2000. Excellent smooth cutter for foam or stacked vinyl. No wobble or vibration. I have an older model Maimin that I remember being here when I was a kid. My dad said it was WWII surplus. It still works!
Did you buy one of those cutters in the end @Joseph Bennell? I'm looking to buy a new one and I'm wondering how they compare.
If anyone else has experience of one of the cutters in the original post, or has any other recommendations I'd be interested to know.
Not sure if you’ve bought a new foam saw by now, it’s been awhile since I logged in. I made an in depth review of the first blue saw that sailrite sells. It’s alright but they spent more money making it look like a quality saw instead of spending the money to make quality parts. I had to modify it to work again after several months.
Thanks, that's useful to know. It's a shame that it failed after such a short time. I haven't bought a new saw yet, there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of choice out there
@Robert Webb I would love to try the consew saw. Just heard it was a Chinese knock off. I’m assuming more for looks with inferior materials used. But that’s just what I heard, personally I’d like to know.
It works very well. The only thing I do not like is that it uses 2 Phillips screws to hold the base plate on. Its kind of a pain to remove and re install
Thanks for the info!
Yes. I have a compressor. Shouldn't have much problem with that saw.
120 gallon, 2-stage 10HP.
The small ones..."would always burn up and bog down."
It's on a pad out behind the shop. Too big along with being just too damn noisy for it to be in my workspace.
Bought at auction. Cheap. $1500.00cdn. One of my better shop investments.
Running a 1" impact fed by a 3/4" line & it'll kick in, catch up & then, turn off! 36cfm.
It's a bit of over kill for my needs. HeHe!
Major PitA to move, though. 3' high, 4.5' wide, 6.5' long & 880 lbs.
