• Have you ever tried?
Ive made sunbrella fitted seat covers for a truck before, but didnt remove the factory cover. They worked well and held up decent.
We i dont think there should be any issues, we made tons of boat seats and cushions out of sunbrella
  • Pleats
What Darren said. You'll need to glue or apply a backing on that foam.
Just like your scrim foam has, Brushed Tricot "T-Shirt" backing
  • Seat listing tape
This looks similar/ looks much softer than what you had ordered

  • Seat listing tape
    subd.
    also hate sewing that stuff.
  • Black grommets
Try Siska Inc. They manufacture and distribute grommets and things of that nature. I think most of their stuff is brass, but im sure they have other materials.
Trivantage for sure has black from #00 to #05 in spur and rolled rim.
  • Thread size?
yes, 92. We just buy several rolls of thread and make our own bobbins
  • Servo motors?
Learned on servos and will always use one, clutch motors are noisy and damn near dangerous! lol

We have two "Family" servo motors on our pfaffs and I bought a consew servo motor for our long arm. Alot of bad reviews on that consew motor and I can see why after having it in a short period of time. Far too fast even after putting a different pulley on. The electronic RPM gauge is nice, but it starts at like 500 rpms and goes up around 3500. Came with a needle positioning sensor but thats for down the road.
  • Thread size?
We use 92 here as well, I had one spool of Sunguard do that (bay brown) and it was just defective, i haven't had any other issues and do roughly 90% marine work without any problems at all.
  • New Book
Awesome, congrats! Thanks for all the help and advice you put out on this forum. I see your name practically in every thread on the Hogring and you're always willing to help and to share your knowledge..
  • Time for new scissors - recommendations??
i prefer my light KAI scissors over the heavy Wiss all day.
  • Rubber Welt Cord
is anyone going to see a difference once sewn? chances are that OEM stuff is long gone.
  • Hello!
Tenara tends to be more of a white like shown on any color. its really not that transparent.
Have a few spools on the shelf and to me the clear looks like a cloudy white.

The Wonderthread is far far much cheaper and is hardly noticed. Goodluck!
  • foam buns
Not that i know of. nothing can be that easy lol
  • Business License
LLC here as well. You can set up an LLC as a partnership.
  • Hi Im John, Thanks for Adding me to the forum!
Welcome! Went to Wyotech as well, in 2009. Not saying Wyotech was great or anything, but it got me into the trade
  • Boat seat foam and glue
We use Sunguard polyester in everything we do, boat covers get a different thread that lasts the life of the canvas.
Also, regular foam will mold like no tomorrow. If a customer wants to spend money and make sure it lasts, you need to use flow through foam or dryfast foam. Expensive... yes, but well worth it.
Use mesh under the cushions or vents if mesh isnt an option.
Stainless staples is a given even if its a freshwater boat.
  • Lighting!
I have 2500 sq feet and removed the old ballasts/florescents and plugged in some 8 foot VLED bulbs.
Removing the ballasts is the only way to go. Mine are the Vled which is 2 rows of LED aiming a little away from each other which gives double the output on each light. 72w each bulb with 6000k cool white color. Daylights are too yellow IMO.
Dont beat yourself up about saving over 50% of electricity cost btw. I spent around $475 on 25 bulbs or something like that. 5 year warranty.
  • headrest-shrinker
Katzkin used to make a nice stand/machine, highly recommend it if you can find one. Works great.
  • What’s the most profitable work?
Office furniture and brand new boat interiors for a local company make the money for us. Church kneelers also make good money.
  • Helping Others
Good to know, thanks for helping him and us out!
  • Patterning techniques
typically buy a huge roll of 4mil plastic from lowes or home depot. works good for patterning wide carpets for boats (over 10' beams)
  • Where to buy original foam replacement for truck?
Found an ebay seller that gives a lifetime warranty on the foams. Have one in my personal dodge cummins and works great and was like 90 bucks for the bottom bun
  • Staplers
have a few 71 series Bea staplers which are super nice both being long and shorts
have a fasco in the 1/2" wide which i never use

next question is, where do you find the best place to buy staples? and stainless ones.
  • Why are so many shops offline?
I would have to agree with both responses above. For me, its too hard and time consuming to constantly refresh and post new pictures. Even on instagram it seems to be a pain in the butt.
Word of mouth is all I need here, plus i have a few bigger companies use me for all their upholstery work.
